The City of Valley City participates in the National Flood Insurance Program Community Rating System at a Class 9. This program recognizes the efforts Valley City has taken for effective floodplain management and benefits property owners with lower flood insurance premiums.

National Flood Insurance Program is available for residential and commercial properties. Additional information about the National Flood Insurance Program is provided by FEMA.

The City of Valley City has developed a Permanent Flood Protection Plan. Updates on the project as well as flood related maps are available online. 

Barnes County has developed a Hazard Mitigation Plan.
