Unmetered Surcharge

These listed below are for disposal at the Transfer Station. Other rates apply for your residential or commercial account. Please see the appropriate residential or commercial rate pages.

Valley City Public Works staff will review the load and determine the appropriate disposal method.
Garbage fee applies to items that must be sent to the Fargo landfill. Generally speaking, this includes household garbage, furniture and small appliances. Final determination will be made by VCPW staff. If you have questions about specific materials, please call (701) 845-0314.
Inert fee applies to items that Valley City Public Works is permitted to dispose of on site. The inert site can accept construction material such as wood, drywall and shingles without tar paper. Disposal of Waste & Recycling
Garbage: Each Valley City residence is entitled to either two garbage cans (up to 32 gallon size) or two plastic bags of comparable size. Lid must be removable.
Garbage should be out by 7:00 AM on your garbage pickup day.
To arrange for dumpster service or additional pick-ups, contact Public Works at 845-0380.
If residential customers, use more than two garbage cans, additional charges apply. Fees are listed under Residential Utility Rate Page.
Grass clippings: Grass clippings can be disposed of free at:

Tree limbs, sticks: Tree limbs and sticks can be disposed of free of charge through:

Scheduled Tree Limb & Sticks Pickup

Tree limbs and sticks will be picked up if:
Wood pile is created near the regular garbage pick-up
Wood size is 4” in diameter or less.

Animal waste: Animal waste must be placed in sealed bags before placing in cans.
Ashes: Ashes must be placed in a closed plastic bag and set away from other garbage. Do not mix ashes with garbage. Only cold ashes will be picked up.
Car batteries: Car batteries can be recycled at Valley Recycling, 115 12th Avenue SE.
Christmas trees: City crews will pickup Christmas trees from the boulevard or the alley. All trees should have bags and stands removed for easy processing.
Construction debris: City crews will not pickup debris from home construction or remodeling. All waste generated by a contractor will be the responsibility of the contractor or occupant.
Furniture pickup: Furniture can be disposed of at the Transfer Station, 11490 35th St. SE .
Hazardous Waste: The City of Valley City has made arrangements for Valley City residents to be able to dispose of household hazardous waste in Fargo. For more information, including waste accepted and facility hours, see the Household Hazardous Waste website.
Paint/paint cans: Paint/paint cans will be picked up if empty or mixed with kitty litter or saw dust to form a solid mass.
Sharp objects: Place broken glass, medical waste, sharp metal pieces, etc. into a puncture resistant container.
Syringes/lancets: Place syringes and/or lancets in a sharps container.
Televisions: TV’s can be placed on the curb for pickup for a fee of $25 for one person lift or $35 for two person lift. Flat screen TV’s can be recycled at Valley Recycling, 115 12th Avenue SE.
